During a recent project on WA's largest network security program it was incredibly stimulating to immerse myself in a new domain and pick up so much, so quickly – a refreshing change from my software-focused background.
Inspired by my brilliant colleagues MANI DORAIRAJAN and Jo Lofgren, I've decided to tackle the cybersecurity skills shortage head-on and embarked on the ethical hacker pathway with Learning People Global. I'm currently revising for my first exam, CompTIA Security+.
This journey feels even more relevant when you look at the latest Perth market update from Robert Walters https://lnkd.in/gFNWygVc – seems like a smart area to be upskilling in.
The CompTIA Security+ course is comprehensive, with videos, readings, practical labs. I wanted to share how I've been using AI tools to streamline my study process:
Video summaries:
I used Gemini to create bullet-point summaries of the video transcripts for a quick mental framework of each module.
Flashcard power-up:
For the in-depth book, I used the 'Exam Essentials' summaries with Brainscape, a fantastic flashcard app. It's AI feature auto-generates questions and answers from text – a huge time-saver! The UX is great on mobile too, perfect for learning on the go. (Highly recommend checking out their free trial!)
Mock exam insights:
This weekend, my first mock exam gave me clear direction on weaker areas (65% - not bad for a first attempt!). I've been using my AI-powered flashcards and summary notes for review. Aiming for 80%+ before booking the real deal!
Acronym & terminology cheat sheet:
As I took the mock exam, I jotted down any unfamiliar acronyms and terms and then used Gemini to create a concise reference list for quick absorption. Kitchen cupboard osmosis, here I come! 😉
Learning from mistakes:
Questions I got wrong are now in a dedicated Brainscape flashcard deck for focused review.
In short, leveraging AI has significantly accelerated my revision, allowing me to manipulate essential information quickly into digestible and learnable formats. Highly recommend exploring these tools if you're on a learning journey!
