Delivering complex technology initiatives successfully has many parallels to preparing for and racing a triathlon.

There’s lots of moving parts.

Your readiness to execute well on ‘go live’ or race day reflects how well you’ve prepared.

It also reflects how well you’ve understood and mitigated risks and adapted to how the real-time context unfolded on the day.

If you’re smart you apply learnings from previous events to the go live or race in hand.

And if you’re human you celebrate a job well done with your team.

Triathletes are some of the most organised people on Earth. We execute complex deliveries expertly with precision planning and perform under pressure. For fun. Makes sense we’d be good at transferring those capabilities to a working environment too.

We also know how to celebrate with our mates.

Here’s an example from the the World sprint distance championships in Wollongong today. Myself and a couple of club mates from Fremantle triathlon club. We all executed great performances and placed in the top half of our age groups. And we had fun celebrating afterwards too.
